RHS Clarifies Eligibility of Non-U.S. Citizens with Valid Social Security Numbers and Employment Authorization Documents

RHS issued a SFH Guaranteed Origination Notice (Notice) clarifying loan eligibility for a non-U.S. citizen with a valid Social Security Number and work authorization. Per the Notice, for a 12-month period beginning on May 2, 2022, a non-U.S. citizen may apply for a loan through the Single Family Housing Guaranteed Loan Program (SFHGLP) if the non-U.S. citizen has a valid Social Security Number and documented work authorization (such as an Employment Authorization Document, Form I-766). Under current requirements, an applicant seeking to purchase a home through the SFHGLP must have acceptable citizenship or immigration status.
