Rhode Island Authorizes Remote Notarizations

Rhode Island passed a bill authorizing the remote notarization of documents. Under the bill, a remote notarization is defined as a notarial act performed by communication technology. The bill also established procedures for the performance of remote notarizations. In addition, the bill amended notary public requirements with respect to notarial certificates and the notarization of electronic documents. The bill went into effect June 30, 2022.
