New York Requires Notice of Inactivity Fee

New York passed a bill requiring financial institutions to provide notice to a borrower prior to charging the borrower any fee related to account inactivity. Under the bill, the notice must include the pending charges to the borrower, and the telephone number and contact information for a representative responsible for resolving any matter relating to the fee. The notice must be provided 30 days prior to charging the fee. The bill becomes effective 90 days after the bill was signed (on or around February 11, 2021).
