Indiana Allows Expedited Payment Service Fees under Uniform Consumer Credit Code

Indiana passed a bill allowing expedited payment service fees under the Uniform Consumer Credit Code. Under the bill, lenders and servicers may charge borrowers a fee not to exceed $10 for use of an optional expedited payment service (a service that ensures that the borrower’s loan payment will be reflected as paid and posted on an expedited basis). In the event the borrower requests use of an expedited payment service, the lender or servicer must disclose to the borrower the amount of the expedited payment service fee and that the borrower retains the option of making the payment by traditional means. The bill becomes effective July 1, 2018.
