FHA Requires Unique Entity Identifier for FHA Approved Lenders, Mortgagees and Institutions Seeking FHA Approval

FHA issued Mortgagee Letter 2022-14, requiring a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) for FHA approved lenders, mortgagees and institutions seeking FHA approval as part of their institution data in the Lender Electronic Assessment Portal (LEAP) or application for FHA approval. Per the Mortgagee Letter, FHA,

  • required all FHA approved Mortgagees and institutions seeking FHA approval to obtain an active UEI;
  • informed mortgagees how to register for a UEI; and
  • provided instructions on updating the institution profile in LEAP.

The provisions of this Mortgagee Letter may be implemented immediately but must be implemented no later than December 31, 2022.
