New Jersey Amends Content of Foreclosure Mediation Notice

New Jersey passed a bill amending the content of the foreclosure mediation notice mortgage lenders and servicers are required to provide borrowers in default. Under the bill, the foreclosure mediation notice must notify the borrower that obtaining the assistance of a trained foreclosure prevention and default mitigation counselor is a prerequisite to participation in foreclosure mediation, and that the borrower is not required to pay any fees in order to participate in foreclosure mediation. The bill becomes effective September 1, 2021.
