Michigan Repeals Borrower Bill of Rights and Consumer Caution and Home Ownership Counseling Notice

Michigan passed a bill repealing the Borrower Bill of Rights and the Consumer Caution and Home Ownership Counseling Notice. Under the bill, a lender is no longer required to provide a Borrower Bill of Rights or a Consumer Caution and Home Ownership Counseling Notice to a mortgage loan applicant. In lieu of the Borrower Bill of Rights and the Consumer Caution and Home Ownership Counseling Notice, the lender must provide an applicant with a copy of the Special Information booklet that is required under the federal Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act. The bill becomes effective June 13, 2016.
