Nebraska Amends Residential Mortgage Licensing Act

Nebraska passed a bill amending the Residential Mortgage Licensing Act (RMLA). Under the bill, a lender and broker licensed under the RMLA must provide notice of a security breach to the Department of Banking and Finance (Department) if the lender or broker is required to provide notice of the security breach to Nebraska residents. Notice must be provided to the Department no later than the time notice is provided to the resident (unless delayed by law enforcement due to a criminal investigation). The bill becomes effective July 18, 2024.
