FHA Announces Updated Instructions for GSE Single Family Mortgage Model Documents

FHA issued Mortgagee Letter 2023-01, announcing updated instructions for modifying Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s (GSE’s) single family mortgage model documents. On July 7, 2021, the GSEs announced updates to the GSE’s Security Instrument and Note (2023 GSE Forms) with an effective date of January 1, 2023. The 2023 GSE Forms do not align with FHA’s published instructions for adapting the 2001 versions of the GSE documents. This Mortgagee Letter announces updated instructions containing FHA-specific modifications for the 2023 GSE Forms. Per the Mortgagee Letter, FHA is not discontinuing acceptance of the 2001 GSE Forms, and will continue to accept either the 2001 or 2023 GSE Forms provided the appropriate FHA instructions are used. The Mortgagee Letter applies to all FHA Title II Forward Mortgage programs and is effective January 20, 2023.
